This is a folder with documents from the British and Iraqi governments and contains documents pertaining to allegations from a newspaper and Iranian action near al-Kut.

These are letters regarding the British Occupation of Iraq; some have the English translation of the Arabic. The documents include: correspondence regarding workers in Iraq and Persia (modern day Iran); correspondence between a district governor and the Ministry of Interior’s about the Iranian Vice Consul that had been touring in that district, a letter from the Persian Consul General to the High Commissioner for Iraq regarding the dismissal of the Persian Vice Consul and his replacement; a letter from the General Police Office to the Administration for Travelling, Residency, and Naturalization regarding an Iranian religious scholar's residency status in Iraq; correspondence between Ministry of Foreign Affairs to Ministry of Interior regarding investigating the type of business owned by two Iranian scientists in Iraq and why the Iraqi government wants to shut it down; correspondence between Ministry of Interior and district governors regarding security matters, request to assist some consulates in collecting its fees from individuals.

These documents are from the government of Iraq. Some are from the British occupation of Iraq and include correspondence about police matters including demonstrations around Muslim shrines and anti-Wahhabi political movements and public sentiment. Also included are documents concerning border issues and disputes between Iraq and Iran and include the text from a 1932 temporary agreement between Iraq and Iran.

These are documents from the Baghdadi Jewish community. There is a letter from the British Military Governor for the allotment of lambs for the Jewish New Year 1918. Included are various correspondences: what students should bring to the Rabbinical College in Rhodes, Greece; verifications of birth certificates; letter and reply to the Jewish Lay Council from the Institute for the Blind to report its budget for 1934; letter from the Girls Sewing Charitable Society that lists its budget for 1934; letter from the head of Ozer Dalim Society to the President of the Jewish community regarding charity; 1933-1934 budget for Tomkhe Tora Society in Baghdad; letter from Chief Rabbi Benjamin Moshi; letter from the budget council of the Jewish Lay Council to all accountants in the Jewish community regarding decisions and instructions on budgets for 1934; letter from an accountant addressed to the head of the budget council regarding annual budget for 1934 - expenses, property tax, Jewish schools, wages for retired and needy people; spreadsheets containing expenses and revenues of the belongings of the Jewish community - hospitals, Morashi and education institutes; letter to a military figure asking for the release of six named war prisoners in 1919; letter from a legal codification department requesting deputy rabbi to look into a divorce subject to the rabbinical system in 1929; letters about a legal case of a woman claiming the right to collect her deceased husband's allowance, arguments stating she was divorced before he died; letter to the Lay Council concerning a house contract and a settlement; letter from the administration office of the Jewish community to a tenant regarding money for leasing a house; letter from the President of the Jewish community addressed to Iraqi government and Council of Ministers urging them to help distressed victims that were subjected to a catastrophic burglary and damage to their properties and shops, a total of 2731 families; letters to the Jewish Schools Committee regarding decreasing wages, transfers, retirements, sale of school belongings, requests interpretation of some amount to be reported, decrees and increases of allocated money; 1100 new students and their requirements from Jewish community funds; school debts and a copy of the annual budget; a teacher requests a teaching job in Almedrash School or any Jewish school in Baghdad appended by recommendation to the head of the Jewish Lay Council; request to make changes on class schedules and other educational arrangements. Correspondences from community members to the President of the Jewish Community regarding personal issues: help to finding relatives; dispute on a dowry issue; burials; a teacher requests a financial reward for 32 years of working in Midrash Talmud Torah, requests to continue to receive a retirement allowance of deceased husband; letter to Rabbi Sassoon Khedouri from a member of the Supreme Court requesting an additional salary for some extra work he does to help him financially; letter from workers requesting salary increases to the President of the Jewish Butchery; list of thirty names of needy and retired people whose allowances were decided upon by the Jewish Lay Council and approved by General Council. Also included are issues of the Iraqi Chronicle in 1973 on the nationalization of Exxon and Mobil Oil companies.

These are groups of fragments of pages from books and archival documents. Included are revenue stamps and parts of two archival documents: a chart in Arabic and a letter from the British government.

This item includes documents detailing internal administrative matters of the Baghdadi Jewish community such as employment actions, resignations, letters of recommendation, property management, and decisions of the organization. There are also requests for financial assistance and other personal matters, letters from members of the Baghdadi Jewish community to the Jewish Lay Council about increasingly harsh treatment by the government, and reports of individuals being arbitrarily arrested and imprisoned. Other documents include correspondence to the British government to organize a Passover Seder for Jewish soldiers, scholarships to study in British schools, Baghdadi Jews abrogating their citizenship and emigrating abroad, the collection of donations for Palestinian refugees and wounded soldiers, lists of members of the Baghdadi Jewish community in detention facilities, and financial documents such as income tax reports and receipts.

This is collected correspondence in a file folder from 1985 titled “Bulletin Condemning the Turkish Government's Policy with the Arabs”; the records themselves are from the early 1940s. They include a letter from the Iraqi Ministry of the Interior regarding flyers distributed in Mosul province condemning the Turkish government’s policy toward the Arabs and requests the Director of Mosul police to go after the distributors by mixing with students and reporting on them; a letter from the Directorate of Basrah to the Ministry of the Interior regarding the destruction of the logo sign of the British Embassy in Basrah by an Iranian individual assumed to have mental illness and sentenced to three months in prison; a letter from the British Embassy to the press attaché regarding pamphlets being sent to the office; a file folder from 1985 houses the records although the records themselves are from the early 1940s.

These documents primarily contain correspondence between the Midrash Committee, the Midrash school, Midrash Talmud Torah, and the Jewish Schools Committee in Baghdad. They discuss the monthly salaries of individuals working for the various religious organizations. There is a typed copy of the annual report for the Midrash school, 1945-1946. There are also unrelated documents from the British Military Governor’s Office to the Chief Rabbi from 1917. This correspondence relates to members of the Jewish community being allowed out after curfew (including to summon midwives), and the use of lights after permitted hours for religious celebration; the establishment of a charitable committee for poor relief in each community; and a letter requesting unleavened bread for Jewish prisoners during the Jewish holiday of Passover.

This is a booklet titled "Jewish Properties Committee, Hospital Committee." It includes: verification information on the Dar-el-Shifa Society for the Jewish poor, a letter from the incumbent of the Jewish community endowment to the Property Office Manager requesting property plan, and a copy of the requested plan with information on the endowed hospital for the needy from the Jewish community.

These are newspaper clippings with handwritten citations. Most are from the Babel Newspaper series “Past, Present, and Future” and carry derogatory stories about the former Iraqi royal family. There are also family trees of the descendants of Sharif Hussein.

Included in this item are correspondence from the Baghdadi Jewish community to the Iraqi and British governments concerning increasing anti-Jewish and sectarian harassment experienced by community members, correspondence signed by Sir Kinahan Cornwallis, and summaries of the Jewish Daily Post. This item also contains documents describing the arrest of individuals, restrictions on movement, and a violent attack on the Jewish residents of a village near Mosul in early 1941. Also in the documents are: newspaper clippings announcing students accepted into different institutions of higher education; a section of a 1948 newspaper with articles pertaining to the Arab-Israeli War of 1948; documents discussing education issues, such as Baghdadi Jewish students encountering difficulty in being accepted to certain state schools and failing tests at an unusually high rate, enrollment rates in schools, and teachers at Jewish schools suspected of propagating Zionism; a file folder with a student record, photograph, doctor’s notes, and examination results; a statement condemning Zionism signed by several prominent members of the Baghdadi Jewish community addressed to the Secretary of the League of Nations, Geneva.

These are memos and documents from the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the British government. Included are documents concerning negotiations and agreements with Iran concerning the transfer of civilians living in the Iraq-Iran border areas.

This archival material includes most correspondence with Rabbi Sasson Khedouri. Topics include: correspondence from Midrash Talmud Torah regarding educational and financial matters; election of members to a Management Committee for the Baghdad Brigade; letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding Rabbi Khedouri’s testimony before a British-American Commission of Inquiry on the state of Israel; document of questions and Rabbi Khedouri’s answers on the following issues: Jewish status in Iraq, the state of Israel, equality of Jews on paying taxes, education, obtaining jobs, business, religion freedom, travelling, teaching Hebrew, and the number of Jews in Iraq; a form to collect factual information on the Jewish community to be published in the al-Rafidain Directory; a letter from Iraq Red Crescent Society to the head of Jewish community regarding the death of three Iraqis in Java, Indonesia prisons; a letter from a researcher; an invitation for a theater play from the Children's Protection Society; Shamash Company asking for help to distribute fabric to the poor; letter of complaint from a Muslim because some Jews entered the al-Kazmia holy place; a complaint regarding the Jewish community's girls behavior; letter asking for help on a forgery matter; letter asking for help from a Russian Jew who moved to Baghdad; letter asking for help to get papers from the Ministry of Supply to print the Jewish annual calendar for 5708; letter from the al-Jafería Schools Association asking for book donations to build a library; letters to the head of the Jewish community regarding obituaries for martyrs; letter to write an introduction for a book about Iraqi Crown Prince Abdullah; letters from the President of the Jewish Community asking for help on some matters.

These archival documents contain correspondence between the Ministry of the Interior and various regional jurisdictions, the Mosul District, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Justice, the military court, and the office of police regarding a prisoner. The correspondence suggests the punishment was harsh and unfair and that the prisoner should be pardoned/released.

These are archival documents from the Baghdadi Jewish community. The item includes fundraising letters for the establishment of the Jewish Lay Council’s School Relief Committee, invoices for construction materials for repairs and utilities; budget estimates, guides for school administrators, test administration instructions, student rosters, and documents pertaining to teachers and employment issues. Correspondence is in Arabic, English, and French, and comes from Switzerland, Bombay, England, and Shanghai. There is one birth certificate from 1946.

These documents include financial receipts, including postage receipts, a bicycle purchase; bills such as power, water, and phone; community organization invoices, repairs for office equipment, construction materials, printing, office supplies, advertising, handwritten ledgers, notices for outstanding balances, community announcements in newspapers, and lists of expenditures for different items and services purchased by the Baghdadi Jewish Community. There are statements from La Société Anonyme Ottomane des Tramways Eclairages et Forces Electriques de Baghdad, the precursor to the Baghdad Light and Power company.

These are documents from the Baghdadi Jewish community. Included are: correspondence with the British Military Governor and the leadership of the Baghdadi Jewish community about holidays and other community issues such as requesting to preserve a cemetery; birth certificates; marriage certificates; financial assistance for community members; newspapers concerning court decision and recent legislation; newspaper article concerning Jewish citizens leaving Iraq for Israel. Birth certificates record births from the 1870s on. There are letters dated 1917-1918 between the British Military Governor’s Office to the Chief Rabbi regarding the publication of a book, Jewish holidays, the request for legal oversight of community affairs, and a request to protect the land of the Jewish cemetery. There are also printed charts of properties listing buyers and amounts paid and exam records for all the Jewish community schools from 1937-1938.

This is archival material from the Baghdadi Jewish Community containing legal documents related to the disbursement and management of several different endowments for Baghdadi Jewish institutions such as the Albert David Sasson School, Meir Elias Hospital, and Reemah Kadoorie Eye Hospital. There are original deeds and contracts regarding property distribution, the distribution of waqfs (endowments), and tapu sanad deeds (state-owned land granting occupancy).
