These are documents, including correspondence, from the Baghdadi Jewish community. Included are birth, marriage, divorce, and death certificates as well as letters of recommendations for former employees of the Jewish community. Some certificates are written in English; when in Arabic, the certificates often list the names in Hebrew.

These are archival documents from the Baghdadi Jewish community, including budgets from the Jewish Lay Council and expenses of the Jewish schools and other Jewish institutions. Also included are: a letter from the President of the Jewish Community to the Secretariat General for Frozen Funds regarding a widow from 1978; annual budgets of the Jewish Lay Council, the Religious Council, and the Administration of the Jewish Community for the year 1936-1937.

These are archival documents from the Baghdadi Jewish Community. Included is: a list of properties belonging to the community, its annual revenue, names of tenants, and estimations on property tax; official lease contracts between tenants and owners signed by the head of the Administrative Committee for Iraqi Jews; correspondence from Jewish community members to the Administrative Committee requesting leases, repairs, property taxes, a reward for guarding the community’s synagogues and burial sites; a letter to the Administrative Committee to appoint Heskell Isaac to be in charge of the Jewish community’s assets, schools, synagogues, Meir Elias Hospital Endowments and Ḥevrah Ḳadishah; a list of revenues and expenses for endowed schools belonging to the Jewish community for the fiscal year 1955-1956; a letter directed to Hakham Sassoon Khedouri requesting his signature on a list of miscellaneous expenses.

These are documents from the Baghdadi Jewish community. Included are: correspondence with the British Military Governor and the leadership of the Baghdadi Jewish community about holidays and other community issues such as requesting to preserve a cemetery; birth certificates; marriage certificates; financial assistance for community members; newspapers concerning court decision and recent legislation; newspaper article concerning Jewish citizens leaving Iraq for Israel. Birth certificates record births from the 1870s on. There are letters dated 1917-1918 between the British Military Governor’s Office to the Chief Rabbi regarding the publication of a book, Jewish holidays, the request for legal oversight of community affairs, and a request to protect the land of the Jewish cemetery. There are also printed charts of properties listing buyers and amounts paid and exam records for all the Jewish community schools from 1937-1938.

These are archival materials from the Baghdadi Jewish community containing correspondence from the Administrative Committee for Iraqi Jews and the President of the Jewish Community. It includes: letters to and from the Minister of Justice concerning the death of Rabbi Sassoon Khedouri; requests for assistance from community members; elections for the Jewish community council; donation of Torahs to the Ministry of Justice’s library upon request; letters to and from the General Organization for Housing regarding the Jewish cemetery; correspondence with the Secretary of Frozen Funds regarding: the sale of frozen shares in the Times publishing company; shareholders with revoked nationality; company liquidation; and debt repayment; correspondence with the Revolutionary Command Council including letters to Saddam Hussein, then Deputy of the Revolutionary Command Council, regarding complaints about the seizure of property revenues and confiscation of a bank account belonging to Iraqi Jews; correspondence with the Director of Public Security regarding new citizenship laws; correspondence with the president of the Alliance of Non-Zionist Jews in Canada regarding his visit to Iraq; and correspondence to the United Nations, expressing the Iraqi Jewish community’s loyalty to Iraq. There is also a request to the Ministry of Information for Assyrian, Sabean, Yazidi, and Jewish holidays to be included in the annual calendar; a letter from the General Broadcasting and Television Office regarding the film, Man of Peace; a letter regarding the gift of Torah scrolls to the Jewish communities in England and Sweden; a letter to Ahmed Hassan al-Bakr (President of Iraq), complaining of the continuation of discrimination against Jews in spite of the decree to treat Iraqi Jews equally as Iraqi citizens; letters to the Ministry of the Interior regarding the freezing of bank accounts; permission to sell properties; the confiscation of a synagogue in Basrah; maintaining and revocation of Iraqi nationality; and a list of community members eligible to serve on the administrative council. There are also copies of the Iraqi Gazette from 1958, 1961 and 1973.
