Included is: a list of properties belonging to the community, its annual revenue, names of tenants, and estimations on property tax; official lease contracts between tenants and owners signed by the head of the Administrative Committee for Iraqi Jews; correspondence from Jewish community members to the Administrative Committee requesting leases, repairs, property taxes, a reward for guarding the community’s synagogues and burial sites; a letter to the Administrative Committee to appoint Heskell Isaac to be in charge of the Jewish community’s assets, schools, synagogues, Meir Elias Hospital Endowments and Ḥevrah Ḳadishah; a list of revenues and expenses for endowed schools belonging to the Jewish community for the fiscal year 1955-1956; a letter directed to Hakham Sassoon Khedouri requesting his signature on a list of miscellaneous expenses.

Correspondence from the President of the Jewish Community Regarding Schools, Laws Establishing Organizations, Hospitals

These are documents from the Baghdadi Jewish Community committees and associations through which the Jewish community conducted its business; included for each committee are names of chairmen, board of directors, and secretaries. The documents contain correspondence between the President of the Jewish Community and various Jewish schools in Baghdad, including Frank Iny, Tomkhe Tora Society (teaching Torah to poor children), and the Midrash Talmuh Torah Schools. Subjects include classroom assignments, teacher salaries, requests for Hebrew Bibles from the British and Foreign Bible Society in London for schools in Baghdad. There is also correspondence with the Iraqi Ministry of the Interior regarding the laws of establishing organizations, and documents outlining the arrangement of various organizations including the Dorshe Tora Society (teaching Torah to adults) and Ozer Dalim (committee for helping the poor); correspondence between the Jewish Lay Council and the Baghdad Chamber of Commerce, the Ḥevrah Ḳadishah (Burial Society), Meir Elias Hospital and the Jewish Hospitals Committee; correspondence regarding the training of ambulance attendants, the annual report of the Red Crescent Society from 1947, and lists of the heads and structure of Jewish organizations, hospitals and schools. These committees were all vital in the daily life of Baghdadi Jews.

These are documents from the Baghdadi Jewish community. Included are correspondence with community members asking for assistance and visas; birth, life, betrothal, marriage, divorce, widowhood, and death certificates. Some of the verification certificates include names written in Hebrew. One of the letters from the president of the Lay Council in Baghdad is to a Rabbi in New York City about the betrothal of Baghdadi woman to an American man; other letters are confirming the death of a husband and the widow status of a wife and family in need of financial assistance.

Legal Paperwork from the Daniel Family; Laws and Regulations

This is legal paperwork from the Baghdadi Jewish Community regarding the personal property of the Daniel family including contracts, depositions, correspondence, a small blueprint, deeds, receipts, and citizenship verification. There is a printed copy of Majmū‘a, a collection of laws and regulations for the Jewish community and includes 77/1931 and 36/1931. There is a printed copy of Al-Waqā’i‘ Al-‘Irāqiyah, the official government newspaper for publishing legislation and contains Law 64/1967.
