This item contains correspondence between the Iraqi government and the Baghdadi Jewish schools concerning a number of subjects, such as test administration procedures, upcoming events, information concerning students and faculty, and requests that school administrations adhere to the guidelines put forth by the government. There are also receipts, a ledger indicating book orders, and several recording school statistics from Mus’ūdah Yousef Shemtob School.

These are financial records for the Ezra Menahem Daniel Sports-Ground Committee which is affiliated with several Jewish schools in Baghdad and used by the schools and the Jewish community. There are collections of receipts from the Administrative Committee for Iraqi Jews, the South British Insurance Company, the Rafidain Insurance Company, various local vendors and taxi services, pharmacies, utilities, as well as rosters of patient information and correspondence from the Ministry of Culture of Iranian Schools in Iraq.

There is also correspondence with various government and community organizations including the Office of Information – Mosul; National Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Iraq; The British Bank of Iran; Office of the Haham of the Spanish and Portuguese Jews of Great Britain; Chevrolet; Iraqi Red Crescent Society; The Society for Improving the Conditions of the Blind in Iraq; French Ambassador in Iraq; The Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China; The Great Synagogue of Baghdad; and the President of the Catholic Diaspora. These documents reflect the Baghdadi Jewish community's name change to the Mosaic community.

These are archival documents from the Baghdadi Jewish schools. They contain correspondence regarding payments for the SAT and Achievement Tests between the president of the Jewish community, the Educational Testing Service in Princeton, N.J., the Bank of Iraq, and the principal of the Shamash Secondary School. There are also several brochure publications regarding administration of standardized tests, advertisements for supplemental test preparation, generic correspondence from the Educational Testing Services, forms assessing English language competency, and copies of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) exam for 1964.

These are financial documents from the Frank Iny schools. They are promissory notes from the school, and receipts and invoices from a variety of vendors for construction and maintenance work, book orders, water, electricity, toys, office and school supplies, and printing.

This is archival material from the Baghdadi Jewish Community that contains correspondence between various Jewish community groups and government offices. Topics include: increases in monthly salaries, the allocation of money to various Jewish community offices, religious ceremonies, plans for vacant lots, travel for medical treatment and rest, kosher meat, ledgers with the amount of meat purchased in 1949 (for meat tax), correspondence from the Mayor of Baghdad regarding trash removal, financial summaries, budgets, salary reports, newspaper clipping, employee raises, purchased goods, women’s ritual purity laws, correspondence with individual rabbis, girls’ school, applications for permits, and an index of registered judges' names. There are also correspondence and flyers in Judeo-Arabic; the Judeo-Arabic flyers are from the Tomkhe Torah Society.

These are archival materials from the Baghdadi Jewish community. Contents and topics include: correspondence between the different community committees, the Iraqi government, schools in Baghdad, and the diaspora community – primarily the Jewish community in Shanghai, China. The Chief Rabbi receives a letter from the head of the American School for Boys in Baghdad rejecting a request for admitting a student on scholarship. There are letters about life insurance and insurance for the community as a whole. Other items include correspondence regarding travel to Iran; a chart with the names of Jewish schools and hospitals and their dates of establishment; a handwritten note requesting proof of service certification from the head of the Reemah Kadoorie Eye Hospital because of the financial hardship of the requester; and a letter from the President of the Jewish community in Baghdad congratulating a member of the Shanghai-Baghdadi diaspora community on receiving the “Order of the Brilliant Jade” award from the Chinese government.

The documents contain correspondence regarding members of the community needing medical help; advertising in newspapers and subscription renewals; paperwork regarding health inspections; invoices and receipts from public and private institutions for medical expenses, utilities, taxi services, and insurance policies; and an account of general contracting services performed on the Suq building.

The item includes fundraising letters for the establishment of the Jewish Lay Council’s School Relief Committee, invoices for construction materials for repairs and utilities; budget estimates, guides for school administrators, test administration instructions, student rosters, and documents pertaining to teachers and employment issues. Correspondence is in Arabic, English, and French, and comes from Switzerland, Bombay, England, and Shanghai. There is one birth certificate from 1946.

These documents include financial receipts, including postage receipts, a bicycle purchase; bills such as power, water, and phone; community organization invoices, repairs for office equipment, construction materials, printing, office supplies, advertising, handwritten ledgers, notices for outstanding balances, community announcements in newspapers, and lists of expenditures for different items and services purchased by the Baghdadi Jewish Community. There are statements from La Société Anonyme Ottomane des Tramways Eclairages et Forces Electriques de Baghdad, the precursor to the Baghdad Light and Power company.

This is correspondence between the President of the Jewish Community, the Jewish Religious Court, Iraqi government departments, and public and private employers regarding salaries, legal cases, payments, receipts and invoices.

These are documents from the Baghdadi Jewish Community. They contain correspondence regarding marriages, divorces, civil disputes; the birthday celebrations of the Iraqi king, responses to inquires about the treatment of Iraqi Jews under Iraq’s citizenship laws, the history of Jews in Iraq, and the provision of Jewish artifacts to the Iraqi Museum. There are receipts for furniture stores and other vendors, invoices; budget allocations, deficits, and planning for various community organizations and institutions; ritual slaughtering administration, names of butchers with the numbers of animals slaughtered, names of community organization members, ledgers of payments for goods or fees, building plans, provisions for school children, concerns over hospital food distribution, blanket distribution to the poor, receptions, meetings, shipment orders, import and export of goods, the care of orphans, and a census on the number of synagogues in Baghdad in 1945 (40). There are copies of a printed text titled “Appeal to Save the Children.” Letters include: the President of the Jewish Community to the Controller of Foodstuffs in Baghdad thanking the Controller for the allotment of sugar and tea for the students at the Rahel Shamoon School; addressing complaints at the Meir Elias Hospital in Baghdad; purchasing blankets for the poor via the Poor Welfare Society; sending money rather than clothes from an importer in New York City to the poor in Baghdad since clothing costs have gone up.

This is archival material from the Baghdadi Jewish Community containing legal documents related to the disbursement and management of several different endowments for Baghdadi Jewish institutions such as the Albert David Sasson School, Meir Elias Hospital, and Reemah Kadoorie Eye Hospital. There are original deeds and contracts regarding property distribution, the distribution of waqfs (endowments), and tapu sanad deeds (state-owned land granting occupancy).
