This is correspondence from the Iraqi government to school administrations regarding exams; student demographic information and enrollment figures; teachers’ hours and salaries; statistics; regulations; approved textbooks; school field trips; student exchange letters; an art exhibit; guidelines for technical training; and a recruitment ad for the Royal Air Force.

These archival documents contain issues of the Iraqi Gazette (Al-Waqā’i‘ Al-‘Irāqiyah), the official newspaper of the Republic of Iraq. Issues are from 1949 through 1958 (numbers 292, 4104, 2698, 2938, 2939, 3779, 3455, 3261, 3080, 3018, 2997, 2971, 2965, 2953, 2951, 2945, 2944, 2942, 2817). Included in these issues are official documents about anti-Jewish legislation and financial recourse after citizenship is revoked. There are letters included about restoration of citizenship to the Iraqi Ambassador in Lebanon; legal decisions about the nationality law; and frozen funds of the Jewish community. Also included are import regulations and trademark registrations.

This is a newspaper titled الشعب (“The Nation/People”) and is issue #7514 from May 1, 1953. Topics include the Syrian foreign minister in Baghdad and Britain advising Jordan and Israel. There is one annotation on the last page around an announcement from the President of the Jewish Community and acting president of the Jewish Lay Council (Heskel David Shemtob) wishing King Faisal II well.

In a file with the handwritten title “Menahem Account and Promissory Bills Received by the Court” are a letter from the Administrative Committee for the Jewish Community to an accountant regarding payments for his service; handwritten calculations; endowment registration; a chapter of a law for endowments published by the government of Iraq under King Faisal II; expenses of the Menahem Daniel schools; a letter to Jewish Lay Council asking to acquire revenues and expenses for Menahem Daniel’s endowments in 1944.
