These are documents from the Baghdadi Jewish Community. The majority of the documents relate to the Jewish Hospital in Baghdad but included are other correspondence within the community. It also includes a letter from a German Jewish Doctor from 1933 trying to move to Baghdad.

This is correspondence from the Iraqi Ministry of Education and Office of Education in Baghdad to all school administrations with regards to public health for students, the battle against illiteracy, school statistics, school inspectors, explaining amendments to the personal status law, the opening of a new school, personnel issues, administrative instructions, school daily and annual calendars, extracurricular activities, transfer of students, exams, curriculum standards, a national anthem contest, book lists, girl and boy scouts, lists of school administrative officials, and field trips. Also included is a list of recent name changes of streets and public square names throughout Baghdad.

These documents include correspondence between the President of the Jewish Community and the Court of Materials Identification requesting information regarding Meir Elias Hospital donor names. The documents also mention Waqf donations; the abrogation of citizenship; legal documents; forms registering allocations; and the Police Office of Travelers and Citizens.

These are documents from the Baghdadi Jewish community. Included are certificates for birth, engagement, marriage, divorce, and death of community members. There is correspondence from the President of the Jewish Community regarding financial hardships, marriage disputes, medical assistance needs and travel for medical treatment, and confirmations of character, identity or citizenship. There are also documents confirming religious education and births in other countries including Austria, Greece, and Romania. Birth certificates verifying birth dates go as far back as the 1870s.

These are archival documents from the Frank Iny and Shamash Secondary schools. They contain correspondence from the Office of Education in Baghdad regarding school administration issues including: student vehicles, folk and popular dancing, student registration, school fees, labor disputes, book inventory, the organization of health committees in schools, student attendance, boy scouts, girl scouts, the battle against illiteracy, uniform certification, assembly agendas, Islamic education, scholarships, the national anthem, assemblies, extracurricular activities, drawing competitions, education standardizations, lists of schools, union regulations, speech festivals, poetry competition, approved films, and compliance forms. There is also a brochure for photography and video services and a survey about home economics education.

These are two letters from the Iraqi Public Safety Office for Oversight and Operation of Jewish Property with regards to a legal inheritance matter in the Baghdadi Jewish community.

These are archival documents from the Baghdadi Jewish community. The documents contain correspondence regarding members of the community needing medical help; advertising in newspapers and subscription renewals; paperwork regarding health inspections; invoices and receipts from public and private institutions for medical expenses, utilities, taxi services, and insurance policies; and an account of general contracting services performed on the Suq building.

These are documents from the Baghdadi Jewish Community. They contain correspondence regarding marriages, divorces, civil disputes; the birthday celebrations of the Iraqi king, responses to inquires about the treatment of Iraqi Jews under Iraq’s citizenship laws, the history of Jews in Iraq, and the provision of Jewish artifacts to the Iraqi Museum. There are receipts for furniture stores and other vendors, invoices; budget allocations, deficits, and planning for various community organizations and institutions; ritual slaughtering administration, names of butchers with the numbers of animals slaughtered, names of community organization members, ledgers of payments for goods or fees, building plans, provisions for school children, concerns over hospital food distribution, blanket distribution to the poor, receptions, meetings, shipment orders, import and export of goods, the care of orphans, and a census on the number of synagogues in Baghdad in 1945 (40). There are copies of a printed text titled “Appeal to Save the Children.” Letters include: the President of the Jewish Community to the Controller of Foodstuffs in Baghdad thanking the Controller for the allotment of sugar and tea for the students at the Rahel Shamoon School; addressing complaints at the Meir Elias Hospital in Baghdad; purchasing blankets for the poor via the Poor Welfare Society; sending money rather than clothes from an importer in New York City to the poor in Baghdad since clothing costs have gone up.

These are documents from the Baghdadi Jewish schools. The documents consist of individual student records including photographs, exam scores, student certifications, admissions forms, doctor’s notes, and correspondence regarding student affairs.
